Am I a dancer or a researcher? Setting the rhythm of fluid co-creation and fluid positionality

This article brings forward the method of ´fluid co-creation´ as a path to preserve intangible cultural heritage (ICH) where the community that seeks to preserve their heritage and the researcher work together to immaterialize it in 360 videos by integrating co-creation and action research (AR) principles into the conception of high-tech multimedia products. Analysing the first AR cycle of her PhD research, the author explains the intricacies of adopting a fluid positionality while collaborating with a group of immigrant Mexican dancers; transitioning between being a high-tech researcher/content creator and a rookie member of the dancing company. By adopting the four AR stages (Wadsworth, 2015), fluid co-creation proposes a roadmap that brings together stakeholders in preserving ICH. The author shares findings on the complexities of this method while interweaving the feasibility, advantages and disadvantages of her positionality, concluding that the inbetweener positionality (Milligan, 2014) is an ideal choice for developing researchers.
